- ⚖️ The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) rules in European Commission v. Germany (C‑518/07), on 9 March 2010, in European Commission v The Bavarian Lager Co. Ltd. (C-28/08 P) on 29 June 2010, and in Volker und Markus Schecke (C‑92/09 and C‑93/09), on 9 November 2010.
- 🇪🇺 The European Parliament refuses to consent to a proposed Council decision for an EU-US Agreement on the transfer of financial data for the purposes of the Terrorist Finance Tracking Program, negotiated in the context of the ‘SWIFT scandal’.

- At the Council of Europe:
- On 10 March 2010 the Committee of Ministers adopts a decision encouraging the start of work on the modernisation of Convention 108;
- The protection of individuals with regard to automatic processing of personal data in the context of profiling (Recommendation CM/Rec(2010)13) is adopted by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on 23 November 2010.
- The Article 29 Working Party publishes its 13th annual report, covering 2009.
- The European Privacy and Data Protection Commissioners’ ‘Spring’ Conference convenes in Prague on 29 and 30 April 2010, and adopts a Resolution on the envisaged EU-U.S. agreement on data protection standards in the area of police and judicial co-operation in criminal matters, a Resolution on the set up of joint actions of awareness and education of youngsters at a European and international level, a Resolution on the use of body scanners for airport security purposes, and a Resolution on future development of data protection and privacy.
