- ⚖️ The Court of Justice of the European (CJEU) decides in Digital Rights Ireland (Joined Cases C‑293/12 and C‑594/12) (declaring invalid the Data Retention Directive) and in European Commission v Hungary (C‑288/12) on 8 April 2014, and in Google Spain SL and Google Inc. v AEPD and Mario Costeja González (C‑131/12) on 13 May 2014 (read the written observations of the European Commission in Google Spain). The Court also decides in Ryneš (C-212/13), on 11 December 2014.

- 🇪🇺 The European Parliament adopts on 12 March 2014:
- a legislative resolution on the proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (General Data Protection Regulation) (ordinary procedure: first reading), and
- a Resolution on the US NSA surveillance programme, surveillance bodies in various Member States and their impact on EU citizens’ fundamental rights and on transatlantic cooperation in Justice and Home Affairs.
